Message from the Dean
Dr. R.N.Vakil
B.E (Civil), M.Sc. (Civil), Ph.D (Wisconsin)
The ultimate aim of education at School of Planning is to make aware of multidimensional issues of contemporary
society and to meet the challenges arising out of resolving these issues. It deals with accumulated knowledge helping
students to translate these into actions, appropriate to their own time. In process, it is dynamic analysis of culture, values
, knowledge and methodology.
School of Planning, CEPT aspires not only to train competent technocrats but also in increasing students sensitivity
to the emotional, spiritual, cultural and aesthetic dimensions. The students are equipped to understand the complex
societal forces that would increasingly bear on them when they begin their professional life and to cope with them
successfully.

Message from the Dean Emeritus
Dr.(Prof.) B.V.Doshi
ARIBA,Hon. FIIA, Hon. Ph.D. (Penn)
I take immense pleasure in introducing the School of Planning of the CEPT family. The School of Planning was
established in 1972 and it heralded a new philosophy of planning education and attempted to make
a departure from the prevailing trends in planning education and mainstream planning practice. The emphasis on the
broader development issues and focus on the economic and social dimension of development of School of Planning
was aimed to foster a new mode of planning, which sought to break away the realms of planning practices by
public agencies to encompass larger societal concerns of growth, distribution and management of changes as well as
policy formulation at the national and state level.
